Emili Picó (1885 – 1966)



He was born in 1885 in Fondó de les Neus (Alicante) and died in Barcelona in 1966.

As a child he was father orphaned and he moved to Barcelona with his mother, where he began his ecclesiastical career.

He only had two years to complete the seminary when he left it and took his studies for a degree in teaching.

In 1910 he began his work as a teacher in several towns, and he was the Principal of a public school in Sant Pere de Ribes, where he founded the Ateneu.

In September 1934 he came to Sitges, where he worked as a teacher until he retired.

He founded the Mutua de Ahorro y Virtud to encourage savings among students, published workbooks, became board member of El Prado, cultural and musical dynamiser …
