Sitges Carnival 2022 begins the February 24, on Dijous Gras (Fat Thursday) and ends March 2, with the Burial of “Sa Majestat Carnestoltes” (His Majesty Carnestoltes – the Carnival King).
The 2021 Sitges Carnival was a limited affair in response to Covid regulations and thus the 2022 edition of the Sitges Carnival is without a doubt, a greatly anticipated event. The Carnival Commission and Sitges City Council have already confirmed that they are working towards the celebration of the 2022 Carnival on the streets, adapting the Sunday and Tuesday parades to comply with sanitary measures to fight the pandemic of COVID19, with a circuit that offers total health security to both participants and public.

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the El Retiro, His Majesty Carnestoltes I will arrive at Vidal i Quadras Square, located in front of the Miramar Centre Cultural, a building built in the mid-19th century. We will need all the warmth of the Sitgetans to properly receive the King of Fools. Please come with a desire to party and on time or perhaps, a little ahead of time, arriving on Barcelona Street.
At the end of the event, His Majesty Carnestoltes I and entourage will parade following the following route: Baluard Vidal i Quadras, Fonollar, Port de n’Alegre, Rafael Llopart, Sant Damià, Àngel Vidal, Cap de la Vila, Major and arriving at plaça de l’Ajuntament.

The Cap de la Vila is the starting point of this journey through the history and nostalgia of Carnival, with the help of Ràdio Sitges recreating the set of TeleFot. His Majesty Carnestoltes, the Queen of Carnival and all who wish to take part, disguised as they please. The “charanga” will liven up the party until it reaches La Fragata, where the closing performance will take place.

The entourage will take the following route: Passeig de la Ribera, Bonaire, Parellades and Cap de la Vila where Sra. Cuaresma will read her very peculiar Vegetable Manifest and hand out sugared “Buñuelos” (wind fritters).
