Casablanca

Bar of the Month – Casablanca

Tucked away just off C/ Mayor in Pau Barrabeig 5, this charming bar has almost become an institution. It has been in the hands of Brandon Jones and Joan Font, both as a home and a business, for over 25 years. It opened as a bar in 1998, but Brandon decided to rent it out in 2004 because, as a non-smoker, he got tired of the pollution. With the impending change in the law on smoking, Joan and Brandon took Casablanca back in 2009, returning it to the much loved cocktail bar of old.

It is a place where tourists and local residents like to meet, chat and enjoy the unique ambience. Background music is just that and does not intrude on the art of conversation. Everyone is encouraged to join in, and new faces are always especially welcome. Throughout the year, they organise a number of themed events including their popular ‘French’ nights (cheese and pâté included) every Thursday at 20:00 h.

Both are enthusiastic art lovers and on the first floor, as well as being a cosy, intimate lounge area, it also houses examples of quality local art.

Visitors have to try their famous cocktails (including a really exceptional ‘Bloody Mary’
‘Pisco sour’ and ‘ Mojito’). Apart from the hard work of running such a busy and popular bar – open 7 evenings a week during the summer months – Joan & Brandon also find the time and energy to support charity events to raise awareness and funds for Gay Sitges Link.
