Patchwork Sitges 2022

Sitges hosts the International Patchwork Festival from 24-27 March 2022
In 2021, the International Patchwork Festival adopted a new outdoor format in response to Covid prevention measures and adapted the trade fair, reducing the number of exhibitors to 60 and locating them on the Paseo de la Ribera.

This year, the International Patchwork Festival is back with one hundred national and international exhibitors at the trade fair, extensive exhibitionsmonographic patchwork courses and a large space for creative workshops.
The Sitges International Patchwork Festival has become one of the benchmark events in the textile craft sector and generates a large influx of public who visit the event every year. Being the most important patchwork event in Spain, it is also an internationally known trade show that enjoys great popularity.
Over four days, visitors will be able to view international and national exhibitions in addition to the Asociación Española de Patchwork (AEP) exhibition showing pieces submitted to the competition by its associates. “Emotions” is the theme chosen this year and we hope it has inspired association members to participate.

Exhibitions Sitges International Patchwork Festival 2022

Mapa Patchwork Sitges 2022

Marina Landi

Centre Cultural Miramar (1 en el mapa)

Trained in fine arts, Marina Landi soon discovered the art of joining fabrics.
She gradually entered the patchwork world creating various pieces made with self-dyed silks.
She also teaches in her own workshop in São Paulo.
In this exhibition, Landi will show 12 works showcasing her technique inspired by mosaic concepts, using pre-printed cotton fabrics as well as pure silks that are hand dyed to achieve a range of brilliant colours.

Erica Waaser

Mercat Vell (4 en el mapa)

Born in Germany, Wasser started with traditional patchwork 20 years ago. She was intrigued and passionate about discovering new techniques that allowed her to create her own designs.
Design, proportion and especially technical functionality in three-dimensional spaces were the keys to her work as an architect. And as a textile artist she explores new areas of design and color freedom.
Her abstract compositions are a challenge. She works in series, one called “lines”, another “zig-zags” and another “curves”.

Maya Chaimovich

Mercat Vell (4 en el mapa)

In her beginnings, Chaimovich started with the more traditional patchwork, but she soon felt attracted to more abstract art.
For 4 years, from 1997 to 2001, she studied at the “Shenkar College of Art & Design”, through patchwork and thanks to her teacher Orna Roglit, she was able to express her feelings and recount her experiences.
Most of the fabrics that she uses are from recycled clothing that she organizes by color groups.

Olga González

Sala Stämpfli (3 en el mapa)

This year we want to offer a space to this well-known artist who has won numerous awards both nationally and internationally.
Gonzalez’s inspiration is nature itself, the sensations that surround each moment, each image… and people.
Her work will be exhibited in this magnificent room showcasing some of her recently awarded works.

Manoli Lozano

Centre Cultural Miramar (1 en el mapa)

Since 2000, Lozano has not stopped growing in this exciting world of patchwork.
Passionate about challenges, especially if they are related to needle crafts.
A year ago, Lozano discovered the world of  Temari, a Japanese craft that consists of embroidering balls of thread. Temari is a traditional culture, of high artistic level and skill in which each design shows the unique characteristics of the free ideas and creativity of the artisan.

Chris Jurd

Ave Maria (5 en el mapa)

This Australian artist has been dedicated to patchwork for more than 30 years. A very active quilter, Jurd designs patterns and is passionate about working with striking colors. Her designs are geometric and very daring. In her quilts she particularly uses a technique called “English-style” piecing (EPP).
A characteristic detail of her quilts is the use of black, highlighting certain elements of the design and giving relief to the quilt, reminiscent of the effect of stained glass windows. An exhibition full of color that will seduce patchwork lovers.

Orquídea García de Almeida

Estudi Vidal (2 en el mapa)

Born in 1954, in Tangier, of Portuguese parents, García de Almeida currently resides in the Balearic Islands. Patchwork has always been present in her family, not only as a hobby but also as a useful resource in some moments. She took painting, engraving and tapestry courses at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts. In 2015 she presented a handmade quilt at the Birmingham Festival of Quilts and in 2017 she participated in a Jill Barklem tribute exhibition. She has been a member of Cosipatchwork since 2009, and in 2017 she won the award for Best Hand-Made Quilt with the piece “Cada Casita con su Árbol”.
In Sitges she will present an exhibition of her quilts made from illustrations of the Brambly Hedge collection by Jill Barklem
