CORPUS SITGES 2022 – PROGRAMME
From the 7th to 26th June, Sitges will once again be imbued with the essence of one of the most emblematic festivities of its traditional and cultural calendar.
Sunday 19th June, 2022 is the day flower carpets decorate many of Sitges’ streets, decorated patios can be visited and the traditional “l’ou com balla” (egg dancing on a spout of water) is on display.
Sitges Corpus will take place in the customary way, with its traditional acts and recovering the decoration of village streets with flower carpets and the celebration of the Corpus Procession.
On Tuesday 7th June, the Corpus Christi Commission presents the poster, the “fiesta” programme and the Sitges Corpus 2022 protagonists: Lídia Gazquez is the crier of the Corpus of Sitges 2022, the Pendonista will be Joan Comas, the artist of the Corpus 2022 poster is Joan Olivella and the Cap de la Vila flower carpet will be performed by the Colla del Drac.
The Corpus of Sitges is a festival with six centuries of history and a high level of popular participation, this year creating 31 flower carpets on the streets of Sitges and the subsequent passage of the Procession.

Corpus in Sitges 2022 – Decoration of patios and other spaces
During the Corpus celebration in Sitges, many patios and other spaces are decorated.
The streets are hung with banners and some of them also with artistic decorations or bowers. To this end, the Sitges Corpus sells banners to decorate balconies, windows…

11:00h 1ª JORNADA DE CORPUS: “EL BESTIARI I L’OU COM BALLA, ELEMENTS DE CORPUS”
With two lectures, given by scholars of the Corpus Christi festival, Carles Freixes and Nil Rider, we will discover the relationship between the elements of the bestiary (Dragon and Eagle) and Corpus, and the story of an iconic element such as the “l’ou com balla” (egg dancing on a spout of water).
Organized by: Comisión de Corpus y Grup d’Estudis Sitgetans.

19h OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE 82nd NATIONAL EXHIBITION OF CARNATIONS
Location: Jardines de El Retiro Sitges (Garden of El Retiro)
Inauguration of the 82nd National Carnation Exhibition, with the presence of the authorities who will visit the carnations of the exhibitors. Attendees will be invited to a refreshment offered by the Municipal Market Paradistas Association.
19:30 EVENING MASS
After the celebration, transfer and solemn exhibition of the Most Holy Sacrament in its chapel. Vigil of prayer in the Eucharist.

22:00h “FLORS, TRADICIÓ I FESTA” (flowers, tradition and fiesta), GUIDED TOUR OF THE CARPETS AND OTHER CORPUS EXHIBITION LOCATIONS.
Organized by AGIS Sitges guides. At the end of the tour there will be the possibility to help make a flower carpet.

After the flower carpets are finished, there is “chocolate with churros” for all the children who have taken part in making the carpets. Sponsored by the Xurreria del Barri. There will also be the Super Bubbles activity, creating giant soap bubbles.

Gardens of the Societat Recreativa El Retiro
Sitges Canta !, the most international choir in Sitges, offers its Copus concert. They will pay tribute to William Carney, former director.

After the procession, the 3 pairs of paper mache giants will accompany the authorities to the Town Hall to perform the traditional final dance in the square.

11:00h THE JURY VISITS FACADES, BALCONIES AND WINDOWS
The jury, accompanied to the music of Apocadixie Cotton Pickers, will visit façades, balconies and windows along the streets in the center of Sitges to make their assessment.
19:00h INAUGURATION OF THE EXHIBITION OF THE 6TH CORPUS PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST ON INSTAGRAM

Exhibition open: From June 25 to July 8. Prize giving at the official closing ceremony.

19:30h OFFICIAL AWARDS AND CLOSING CEREMONY CORPUS 2022
Location: Gardens of the Sociedad Recreativa el Retiro.
After the Closing Ceremony, concentration in the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Vinyet, to make the traditional collective offering of carnations to the Virgin.
The Trenet (little tourist train) accompanied by the Apocadixie Cotton Pickers band, will take us to the Vinyet.
